Address Book 2.0

Fidg't is organized around the idea of a dynamic, networked Address Book that helps you keep track of your friends across different social networks.

When you register with Fidg't, you enter a couple of your social network identities, and we run through all your contacts and try and create Meta Contact references for people you are connected to on multiple networks.

For example, if I am connected to Eduardo on Flickr, LastFM, and AIM, we create a Meta Contact reference for Eduardo that points to all his different identities. Now, in my Address Book, I don't see 3 different entries for Eduardo, just the one Meta Contact entry. If we aren't able to automagically generate these Meta Contacts, then we allow you to manually create them through a drag and drop import tool.

Anyone can create an Address Book using Fidg't, even if you don't have one of our supported phones.

If you do have a compatible phone, the Address Book is the backbone of the application, allowing you to easily browse through your network, chat with people, or check out new photos and music. If not, then the Address Book is currently accessible from: Flash Widgets on your Account Page, the Address Book Web Services, and the Fidg't Visualizer.

Fidg't Network visualizer

The visualizer is a cross-platform java app that allows you to play with your flickr and lastfm contacts in the context of the larger community. Just create tag magnets - either for pics or music - and watch how your network is attracted or repelled. More information can be found here.

This simple mechanic lets you visualize your Network in a unique way, demonstrating its Predisposition towards certain things. What is more popular amongst people in your Network - rock or electronic music? Are photos of buildings more popular than photos of sunsets? Based on how your network reacts to those Tags, you might get an answer. The Visualizer also lets you see how your Network compares to a random sampling of the networks of other Fidg't users, letting you see how your network stacks up to others?

Plus, it looks awesome, and is just a really fun little toy to play with

Web Services

We provide XML and JSON response formats for accessing your address book, your personal identity info, and information about the Fidg't network.

Our web services are in a nascent stage, but we're trying to make it easy for you to have an open and portable address book combining your network identities, from social networks, to IM, to down the line phone numbers and addresses.

Currently, you can make a simple calls to return Address Book data, your identity information, and a list of all current Fidg't users.

Example return blocks for Address Book info include the name and handle for each Network the specified contact belongs to, and the current reference handle and current reference thumbnail location.

We are currently working on developing additional methods: Filtering and Sorting calls for the Address Book, based on Online Status, Alphabetical Order, and Network Type, as well as the ability to return a specific number of contacts.
